Hartlepool Catholic Club show report from Mayfair JD Sports Domes

Danielle Marshall was the star turn at Hartlepool Catholic Club’s second show of the year.

The 16-year-old outpointed Serbian junior champ Bojana Dragicevic after three exciting rounds at the Mayfair JD Sports Domes in Seaton Carew.

Marshall provided the highlight of the entertaining Friday the 13th event.

The High Tunstall College of Science pupil was one of only four Catholic Club winners on the show.

Andrew Metcalfe was the first to taste victory, working well inside to defeat Houghton’s Aaron Chaplin on a unanimous verdict.

Reece Bailey was also involved in a close contest, with the 16-year-old southpaw using is long arms to good effect to beat Lewis Owen, from Crook.

Josh Brown, the club’s senior figure, sent the packed crowd home happy with a triumph in the show closer against Scott Robinson.

The away boxer came flying out of the traps but Brown, conceding height and reach, tore into the Walkerfield man and put him down in the second round. Robinson got up and while both men were almost out on their feet in the last with exhaustion they made it to the final bell, the 25-year-old earning a unanimous verdict.

Owen Forbes, from Houghton, opened the competitive programme with an excellent display to outpoint Catholic Club’s Harry Huntley, who stuck at his task until the last bell.

The next bout featured no home boxer, with Hendon’s Owen Imeson outpointing Adam Gaskin, from Barnard Castle.

Boldon southpaw Tommy Hunter used every inch of his reach advantage to control his three rounds with the always-game Lewis Fannan.

Dylan Swales was equally dominant as he defeated a brave Travis Miller. The Redcar boxer put the Hartlepool Catholic teenager down in the second but he got up and battled through to the last bell.

Hartlepool Catholic Club’s young England boxer Dylan Skedd and Erik Ciureja served up a belting contest. Skedd pressed forward with ambition but the smaller Fenland Sparta ABC boxer was a superb mover and used that and his quick hands to score a unanimous points success.

Kai Cubby’s non-stop aggressive approach paid off handsomely as the High Fell teenager outpointed Catholic Club’s Rhys Hopkins, the home boxer taking a standing eight count in the opener. ‘Hopy’ battled through to the end but it was a fine win for the Gateshead lad (pictured).

Luke Theasby and Jack Bowden fought out a cracking Hartlepool v Redcar derby which the fans lapped up, the pair going almost punch for punch, the away boxer taking the first split decision of the evening.

The second and final split followed in the next bout, Ethan Gerraty defeating Catholic Club’s Ryan Appleby in a very watchable contest. The Dunston boxer was the first to the punch early doors but the Poolie went after him in a cracking last round, though to no avail.
