Thomas Hodgson-Conner Lee Doherty: NE29’s Hitman stars on Jobes Boxing show at Rainton

Almost two years after bursting on to the professional fight scene Jobes Boxing are back for another show at Raintopn Arena.

Ten bouts are scheduled at the Rainton Arena where a couple of familiar North-East favourites are joined by an array of up-and-coming talent.

Mention of the word talent is the perfect introduction for Thomas Hodgson or Tommy if you prefer.

Managed by Jamie Sheldon of One Empire Management,  Hodgson takes part on one of half a dozen six-rounders and, undoubtedly, the pick of the punch against Conner Lee Doherty.

The North Shields ‘Hitman’, a highly decorated amateur during his days with Birtley ABC, showed his star quality by returning from 14 months out by outpointing Christian Lopez on the recent VIP event at Rainton.

It was a magnificent seventh win and the way he performed against the Madrid-based Mexican was as though he’d never been away. His fans, not just his NE29 following, will be excited to see how he performs against Doherty.

The 25-year-old Leeds boxer is very much a ‘live’ opponent, bringing a 5-1 record to Houghton so it should be an interesting contest.

Anth Ornsby makes a welcome return to the ring after 12 months out at the Rainton Arena.

The Wallsend welterweight will be taking part in his ninth contest and it’s certainly an intriguing one as he is faced by Mykhailo Sovtus.

Those who were at the Summer Rumble at Houghton in July might remember the Ukraine boxer, now based in Canning Town in London, putting down debutant Aaron Peet in a 38-38 draw, so Anth will have to be on his game.

Bobby Dalton has entertained the fans since his entry into the pro game with Craig Carney in Middlesbrough, racking up six straight wins.

The unbeaten Redcar boxer has his second six-rounder here against the highly-experienced Sheffield-based ex-Olympian Serge Ambomo, who is on his seventh visit to the North-East.

Also going over six rounds for the second time is Bishop Auckland’s 5-0 prospect Nathan Forrest, who boxes out of Neil Fannan’s Hartlepool gym.

Forrest faces one of the game’s characters, Alexander Anderson, universally known of course as Fonz Alexander. Nathan clinched his first early win in Seaton Carew in May when he stopped Dean Wilkinson in five rounds.

Callum Walton was in action that day at the seaside venue and he’s back for his third bout here against Grimsby’s undefeated Tom Ramsden, who returns after a long hiatus.

Walton, from Ferryhill, has won both pro bouts to date and will relish a step up to six rounds.

Also making an early promotion to six-rounders, Robbie Colman too will be seeking his third straight paid success against Louis Norman.

‘The Showman’, from Jarrow, is up against a fighter with considerable expertise and experience, who has moved up the divisions having been a championship contender at super-flyweight in the past.

The four bouts over four rounds include a trio of North-East boxers who are making just their second professional appearances.

Aaron Peet will be after his first victory, following the above-mentioned draw in July. The Durham boxer was bright for the opening two rounds and will be looking to extend that across all four against Manchester’s Josh Cook.

His Twins Academy team-mate, Ali Shear Syed Shah, is also in action as he faces Kasey Bradnum, from Harwich. Horden lightweight Ali was highly-impressive on his debut in Newcastle in March when he had a shut-out win over Venice-based Nicaraguan Christian Narvaez.

Jobes Boxing fighter Callum Fenwick is also looking to double his ‘W’ tally against Manchester’s Liam Fox. Callum, from Hadston in Northumberland, boxed away from home on his debut when he beat Jake Osgood in Bolton in May, and will be excited to perform in front of his own fans at Rainton.

Another man in the excited bracket will be Dan English, who makes his professional debut against Manchester’s John Spencer.

Dan, who some will know from his days with North Road ABC, is boxing out of the fast-emerging Twins Academy in Trimdon, under the tutelage of Jordan Williams.

Doors open at 6pm at the arena with boxing expected to start at 7pm.
