Phil Jeffries promotes 11-fight card starring the cream of his North-East crop at Rainton Arena

You can pencil in Troy Williamson v Josh Kelly for December but before that big occasion in Toon, Phil Jeffries has a night of boxing for you on November 25.

The Wearside fight figure will stage an 11-fight promotion at his favourite indoor venue, the Rainton Arena.

Jaffa’s card, not surprisingly, is packed with his own boxers, the majority of whom are making their way in the professional game.

In fact, the home fighters at the Houghton location boast a collective 33-1 record, if punch-lines is correct with the maths, with stoppages numbering eight if you are interested.

Joe Maphosa is responsible for a third of the victories, with the Thornaby flyweight (pictured) chasing his 14th success.

Next in the win stats is fellow Teessider, Michael Webster, who looks like a man going places further up the weight range.

The South Bank cruiserweight boasts a magnificent seven straight Ws, five coming inside the distance.

‘Pocket Rocket’ Sam Menzies looks a prospect at flyweight after six victories with the Mal Gates-trained star outstanding last time out at the Summer Rumble in July, when he defeated Luke Merrifield.

Adam Cope was the star at the Stadium of Light that day, winning the Northern Area lightweight title in only his fifth paid outing thanks to a convincing points success over Jordan Ellison.

The Hartlepool boxer should be a good bet to move on to higher honours as should his younger brother, Luke, who will join him on the cast list at Rainton Meadows. His log stands at 4-0.

Unbeaten Ewan McKenzie will be having his sixth bout, but his first under David Ritson, with Jarrow crowd-pleaser having crossed the Tyne to join the Forest Hall gym.

Redcar livewire Bobby Dalton is chasing a hat-trick of successes, while Bishop Auckland’s Nathan Forrest is making his second outing, having shone on his debut last month at Rainton, where he outpointed Paul Scaife.

There will be two debuts on Jaffa’s event with the two newcomers having very different routes to this show.

Robbie Colman is from the Bilton Hall club in Jarrow that produced McKenzie. Known as ‘The Showman’, Colman was a Tyne, Tees & Wear champ in the amateurs and also featured in the BBC3 fly-on-the-wall TV series Angels of the North.

The other debutant is a former MMA fighter, Micky Dodds, who is part of the WBA stable of Nik Gittus in Wallsend.

While he has yet to get into the square ring, he is a tough fella, who has been in boxing gyms since he was young, attending South Durham ABC in Fishburn with his pals, the Saunders brothers, Bradley and Jeff.

That’s it for now but, staying in that same neck of the woods, there could be an appearance from unbeaten Trimdon-based big fella, Darryl Hall.
