Lewis Ritson back and headlining Probellum event at Rainton Arena with Tommy Ward also in action

Lewis Ritson is back.

The Geordie hero will headline a huge North-East night of boxing at Houghton on Saturday, December 18, when Probellum will promote the action.

It’s an exciting development for boxing as new world force Probellum stage their first UK show in conjunction with Phil Jeffries.

And it is huge news for the 28-year-old’s legion of fans who were devastated when illness rule him out of October’s scheduled fight in his home Toon. The Davy Ritson-trained star takes on Mexico’s Christian Uruzquieta who has won 20 of his 26 bouts, seven victories coming via KO.

He will be joined on the bill by two of Probellum’s other principal UK signings, the veteran three-weight world champion, Ricky Burns, and new professional, Mark Dickinson, the former GB boxing star.

There is great news for Tommy Ward, who will take on WBA number five featherweight, Leonardo Padilla, at the Rainton Meadows Arena blockbuster.

Ward v Padilla had been scheduled to clash this weekend only for Tommy to suffer an injury, causing the 10-rounder to be postponed.

The show will also feature a wealth of North-East talent, Joe Maphosa, Joe Laws, Terence Wilkinson and Adam Cope.

The Sandman is looking to bounce back from a 10th-round stoppage to Argentina’s Jeremias Ponce in their IBF world light-welterweight championship eliminator at the Vertu Motors Arena in June.

Since then Ritson has joined Probellum, a new global force in boxing promotion and management, based in the USA and fronted by Richard Schaefer, who was the CEO of Golden Boy.

When Probellum signed the Forest Hall star they stated how their “expert team will look to use their vast knowledge to help navigate the 28-year-old back towards world title contention.”

That will start at Rainton on December 18.

“We’re extremely excited to head to Houghton with an action-packed night full of massive names on December 18,” said Richard Schaefer, President of Probellum.

“With the likes of Lewis Ritson, Ricky Burns, Thomas Patrick Ward and more all on the card, it’s certain to be a memorable atmosphere inside the Rainton Arena

“It is our second big event in quick succession following our world-title double header Revolution card in Dubai one week earlier, so it means fight fans are being treated to two huge shows on opposite ends of the world in the space of just seven days

“These are the types of stacked cards that people can come to expect from Probellum moving forward, so we can’t wait to give everybody an event to remember next month.”
