Greek Geordie Alex Farrell must wait until 2021 to take French test after show is postponed

Alex Farrell’s journey into the international boxing arena must wait until 2021.

The unbeaten North-East light-middleweight, managed by Phil Jeffries and coached by David Binns, had been scheduled to box Stevens Bonicel in France on Sunday, December 13.

Farrell was on the undercard of the WBA world cruiserweight title battle between Arsen Goulamirian and Yury Kashinsky  in Cannes on the French Riveria, a show being televised in mainland Europe.

But an issue with the principal fight has forced a postponement though the ‘Black Diamond’ will still be in action when the event is rescheduled.

“The show is being reset for January or February and Alex will still be a part of it,” said Binns.

When the promotion comes back around it represents a magnificent stage for the unbeaten 23-year-old to perform on.

And looks a terrific match-up.

While Farrell’s opponent is five years his senior, he is only three contests ahead of the Greek Geordie.

Bonicel has won three and drawn two of his seven bouts, his most recent success being his maiden stoppage win, halting fellow Frenchman Charles Ponze inside two rounds.

Farrell has a perfect four-fight record, with one inside the distance triumph coming 12 months ago when he blitzed Walsall’s Kearon Thomas in three rounds  at the Christmas Cracker in Houghton.

The former Greek amateur champion, a student at Northumbria University, gained his ticket to the Cote d’Azur having trained with France’s world number three-ranked light-middleweight Michel Soro, who is part of the bill.
