April Hunter-Kamilla Boka: Geordie boxer thrilled to fight live opponent at MTK’s Newcastle event

April Hunter believes she is on a journey to the top and can’t wait to box at the next two destinations.

The unbeaten Newcastle prospect has two dates in her home Toon, first at the Newcastle Eagles Community Arena on Saturday, February 29 and then several hundred metres down the road at the Utilita Arena on Saturday, April 4.

She made her professional debut on the Lewis Ritson-Robbie Davies Jnr undercard last October, following that up with her second paid victory at Houghton in December.

Both wins have come against journeywomen – her Rainton Arena rampage saw her knock Monika Antonik from pillar to post and then back again.

“She turned her back at one point, I thought ‘what’s going on here?’ It was just four rounds of abuse,” Hunter told punch-lines.

The Howdon hurricane is therefore thrilled to have very been matched with a ‘live’ opponent at the MTK event at the Newcastle Eagles Community Arena.

April will take on Kamilla Boka, a 27-year-old, from Hungary, who has won three of her eight contests.

“She’s won three by KO and of the five she’s lost, the girls she lost to are something like 18 and 0, 20 and 0 and 12 and 0,” said the Nik Gittus-trained prospect who is pictured right next to world title challenger Savannah Marshall.

“I’ve watched her, she comes to fight.

“She’s an opponent I think I can totally handle, but it’s a better and exciting fight.

“You don’t want to fight someone who’s going to go into her shell and you don’t want to be in boring fights.

“Not that I think I’ll ever be in any boring fights, I’m not going to sell tickets to my family and friends to go in there and not bite down on my gumshield.

“I want to put it all on the line, but I’ll look to be smart with it.”

The 24-year-old will then be part of the next instalment of the Ritson story and was “honoured” to be on the stage for Wednesday’s media conference alongside ‘The Sandman’, Tommy Ward, Savannah Marshall and Co.

“It was amazing,” said the Phil Jeffries-managed welterweight, who is part of the flourishing Wallsend Boxing Academy.

“I felt honoured to be sitting with such top level boxers, but I feel I belong there, I believe I am a talent who will end up with a world title one day.

“I get on really well with Savannah, she’s done amazing I’m just glad she’s a few weights above me!”
