Sunderland-Liverpool is on, but Robbie Davies Jnr is going to have to be special to beat Glenn Foot

You are going to have to box out of your skin to beat Glenn Foot.

That was the message today from Wearside after Eddie Hearn announced a mouth-watering Sunderland v Liverpool showdown for Matchroom’s soon-to-be-unveiled return to Newcastle.

Lewis Ritson, surprise surprise, will be the headline act at the Metro Radio Arena but Foot’s British and Commonwealth light-welterweight unification fight with Robbie Davies Jr will be a cracker.

Davies Jnr has penned a three-fight contact with Matchroom and will start that deal by boxing on Tyneside on the Autumn.

The 28-year-old Scouser is very good as a record of 16 wins from 17 bouts testifies, with a highly impressive figure of 12 victories coming inside the distance.

But Foot, the reigning Commonwealth 10stone king, will take some beating says Phil Jeffries, the manager of Glenn and Lewis.

“I’ve never seen Footy looking better,” Jaffa told punch-lines.

“When people think of him they just think of him as an animal, but over the last nine or 10 months we have seen the real Glenn Foot and him and (coach) Dave Binns feels there is more to come.

“Things have really come together, physically and mentally.

“Glenn has always been a proper fighting man, a hard man who will go any where and tale anyone on.

“He’s still that but now he just wants titles, he wants them all.

“We know all about Robbie and I get on great with his manager, Neil Marsh.

“But Robbie is going to have to box out of his skin to beat Glenn Foot.”

Hearn had delivered the news on Twitter and is excited by the prospect.

“Working on new fights for the season,” wrote Eddie. “@RobbieDaviesJr v @glenn_foot for the British & Commonwealth light welter title done deal for Newcastle show to be announced soon – welcome to the team both of you, may the best man win!”

Foot appeared on the undercard of Matchroom’s visit to the Metro Radio Arena in June, beating Sam Omidi over four entertaining rounds, the 23rd win of the Marley Pots crowd favourite’s career.
