Jordan Ellison is going on the road again, and going for another great victory.
The travel-anywhere Gus Robinson Developments fighter has accepted the stiffest of tests – an away day against ex-British champion, Robbie Barrett, in Doncaster on Friday night.
Yorkshire star Barrett, fighting for the first time since losing his national title to Lewis Ritson last October, had been due to fight Matty Fagan at Doncaster Dome, but Ellison has agreed to step in at just one week’s notice.
The pair will slug it out over eight rounds on a Stefy Bull promotion.
Was it a tough decision for the Hartlepool boxer and coaches Peter Cope and Alan Temple?
“You don’t need to persuade Jordan,” laughed Cope. “He’s not boxed for six weeks, he’s desperate for a fight.
“Barrett is good and he deserved his British title win against Scotty Cardle this time last year.
“We know how good he is, this is a proper challenge, but we’re looking forward to it.
“If anyone can go and win in Robbie’s back yard then it’s Jordan.”
Ellison, 22, is fresh from a spanking victory in Kent, where he won the British Promoters Challenge Belt with a convincing points success over the previously-undefeated Luke Gibb.
It was the sixth time the Seaham lightweight had travelled away and defeated either an unbeaten boxer or a home-town ticket-seller. Or both. Previously the ex-Horden ABC star had won from the away corner in Wigan against Colin Day, who lost his 100 per cent record.
“This contest is winnable too,” added Cope. “Jordan lives the life and loves fighting.
“Robbie’s good and he’s at home but that makes no difference to Jordan.
“He’s in very good for with two wins in a row.”
