WSB: British Lionhearts 5 Italia Thunder 0, McCormack and McGrail triumph in Liverpool

Great Britain have done it again in the World Series of Boxing after whitewashing Italia Thunder In Liverpool.

A fortnight after thumping the Croatian Knights in Gateshead, the British Lionhearts hammered the Azzurri 5-0 at the Auditorium, Echo Arena tonight,

Galal Yafai gave the home team the perfect start by outpointing Federico Serra at light-flyweight.

There was a scare for light-welterweight Luke McCormack in the second contest when he suffered a nasty cut to his left eye in round three.

But the Birtley ABC boxer clinched his second WSB victory in 2018 by taking a split decision against Paolo Di Lernia after five rounds.

Ben Whittaker enjoyed a dream debut when he clinched the points for GB when he stopped Guiseppe Perugino in the final round of their middleweight match.

Just as the Lionhearts did at Gateshead Leisure Centre, they included an overseas selection and heavyweight guest Radoslav Pantaleev saw off Clemente Russo.

But the highlight of the Group B clash saw the excellent boxing son of Liverpool, Peter McGrail, convincingly defeat his bantamweight opponent Jahyn Vittorio Parrienello on points.

It completed a vital win for the Lionhearts who overtook Italia Thunder to move into  second place behind France Fighting Roosters who have maximum points after three matches following a 5-0 success in Croatia tonight.
