You can’t keep a good man down, can you?
Phil Jeffries is back for more on Friday, December 3 at Rainton Arena with his final show of the year. For now.
The North-East fight figure, who is staging a major event at the Houghton venue on Saturday, November 13, when Tommy Ward headlines against Leonardo Padilla, will return there just three weekends later.
Jaffa is planning a nine-bout show, which features many of the boxers who missed out on the promotion he was forced to cancel on October 1.
One December 3 contest has already been made and it’s a cracker between unbeaten Hetton cruiserweight Adam Gair and the popular Fijian-Geordie soldier Jone ‘TK’ Volou.
Gair, now part of the Wallsend Boxing Academy gym under Nik Gittus, has reeled off five wins on the spin as a professional but will come under fire from the the always-gives-it-a-go Volau, who has a 5-6 record.
“The fans love a derby so I’m over the moon to have that fight on my show,” Jeffries told punch-lines.
“Adam has not put a foot wrong so far but TK will be coming to give it everything. It looks a belter.
“It was with a heavy heart I had to cancel that October the first show but this one is booked, it’s on and the tickets are going out.”
Other boxers confirmed, in alphabetical order, are Luke Cope, Chad Ellis, Kerry Haley, Rob Ismay, Matt McCallum, Ewan McKenzie and Anth Ornsby.
It will be the second appearance in quick succession for both McKenzie and Ornsby, who both fought on Jaffa’s September show at Rainton, ex-Bilton Hall amateur Ewan defeating Paul Scaife on points and Anth losing for the first time as a pro, to Jordan Ellison.
For the rest, it will be the first dates since the Covid crisis and in Haley’s case the first professional bout of her career.
Kerry, part of the WBA set-up, was due to be on the October 1 show.
“Some of the boxers have not fought since the MTK show at the end of last February, like Chad and Matt,” added Jeffries.
“For Luke and Rob it was even before then so it’s great to have them all back.”
