Lewis Ritson is looking to return to the big time this Saturday in Newcastle with victory over Henry Lundy.
But before a punch is even thrown at the Utility Arena, the Geordie has already hit the big time after signing a promotional contract with the next kids on the boxing block.
Los Angeles-based Probellum today were “proud to announce a promotional deal with former British and WBA Intercontinental champion Lewis Ritson.”
Their statement read: “Newcastle superstar Ritson (21-2, 12 knockouts) is known for his all-action, relentless style, having been involved in some of the most exciting fights in the UK in recent years, such as his October 2019 win over Robbie Davies Jnr.
“His vicious power has also been on display during his career, as seen in his quickfire stoppage victories over Paul Hyland Jnr, Scott Cardle and Joe Murray, with those three fights lasting less than four rounds combined.
“Ritson’s first bout since signing with Probellum will come on Saturday, when he competes against Hank Lundy on the BOXXER event – live on Sky Sports Boxing.
“Probellum will guide the career of Ritson moving forward, as their expert team look to use their vast knowledge to help navigate the 28-year-old back towards world title contention.”
It is great news for ‘The Sandman’ who, clearly, remains very much in the mix despite his heavy defeat in June’s IBF world light-welterweight championship eliminator to Jeremias Ponce.
The rest of Team Ritson remains very, very familiar.
Trained by dad, Davy, in their Forest Hall gym, he will continue to be managed by Phil Jeffries in their Tyne and Wear boxing marriage.
“I’m thrilled to be a part of the Probellum team,” said Lewis.
“Over the last few weeks they have made some huge signings and I’m happy we’ve got the deal over the line and I’ve signed with them.”
Problellum have been busy snapping up a host of top names including Regis Prograis, Nonito Donaire, Badou Jack, Eimantas Stanionis, Arthur Biyarslanov, Taras Shelestyuk, Ricky Burns, Eduardo Hernandez and Brandon Moore.
This week they even signed legendary former Sky Sports presenter Jim White – don’t worry, the
talkSPORT radio host won’t be taping up the gloves, he is to serve as Probellum’s first ambassador and will contribute to Probellum’s promotion and programming in the coming months.
While pleased to have Jim on board, the company are thrilled to have one of Britain’s most exciting fighters.
“It’s great to welcome someone of Lewis’ high standard to the team,” said Richard Schaefer, president of Probellum and former CEO of Golden Boy. “He’s always in entertaining fights and is one of the most popular fighters in the entire UK.
“He’s been on the cusp of a world title shot before, and Probellum will now be on hand to steer him back towards that level as we help him achieve his dream of one day becoming world champion.”
