Get ready for a long and entertaining night of boxing on February 29.
In just five Saturdays from now MTK stage their first North East show of 2020 and 15 bouts have, thus far, been scheduled for the Newcastle Eagles Community Arena.
An absolute beauty headlines the gig as Darlington’s Ellis Corrie defends his Northern Area welterweight belt for the first time against unbeaten Spennymoor boxer Chad Ellis.
On the subject of Darlington, the undisputed boxing king of Darlo, Troy Williamson, has been put on the bill.
MTK have not moved far to add another two undefeated Frank Warren talents, Thornaby’s Joe Maphosa and Jeff Saunders, from Sedgefield, representing further exciting additions to the show which will be transmitted live by IFLTV.
Williamson comes to Tyneside on the back of the most notable result of his developing career.
The 28-year-old lifted the International Boxing Federation’s European light-middleweight title just a few weeks back, stopping Italy’s Dario Socci in East London.
Having seen his planned championship debut in October fall through, this 10th-round stoppage victory at the Copperbox Arena on the Daniel Dubois-Kyotaro Fujimoto undercard was very sweet indeed.
It extended his unbeaten run to 14 contests and was his 10th stoppage success.
‘Trojan’ joins an incredible array of North-East talent with all points of the region represented.
Unbeaten Tynesiders Joe Laws, April Hunter, Anth Ornsby and Steve Robinson look to extend their 100 per cent records, though the mooted Newcastle v Gateshead derby between Laws and Kris Pilkington has, sadly, fallen through.
Lawrence Osueke and Basi Razaq are also in action while the East Durham camp is represented by Alex Farrell, Adam Gair and Tom Hill.
Unbeaten Michael Webster extends the Teesside involvement while exciting Irish welterweight prospect, Lee Reeves, is scheduled for his first date in Britain and Ireland after four wins in North America.
It is some show to kick off the year and matches the bumper 15-bout Summer Rumble card staged by Phil Jeffries at the Stadium of Light back in 2012.
