Like London buses, you wait ages for a Northern Area title fight and then two come along at once.
Just weeks after winning the region’s welterweight belt, Ellis Corrie is going to be out again very soon to defend it after MTK today announced a big show in Newcastle next month.
Corrie will put his crown on the line in a mouthwatering Northern Area championship confrontation with unbeaten challenger Chad Ellis (pictured) on Saturday, February 29.
The show at the Newcastle Eagles Community Arena is almost certain to attract a huge crowd and not just because of the big Darlington v Spennymoor derby.
Explosive talent Joe Laws is also in action with Alex Farrell, Adam Gair, Tom Hill, April Hunter, Anth Ornsby, Lawrence Osueke, Basi Razak and Steve Robinson also announced as on the card.
Corrie v Ellis looks the proverbial belter.
The Darlington boxer took the vacant title in style last month with a stunning fourth-round stoppage of Hill at Rainton Arena.
To emphasise just how good a win it was, it came in only his sixth pro appearance.
Chad Ellis completed his ninth straight paid success the same week when he defeated Danny Little in a lively four-rounder at MTK’s dinner show at Gateshead’s Hilton Hotel.
It followed on from an exciting six-round scrap with Dale Arrowsmith on MTK’s last event at the Newcastle Eagles Community Arena back in September, arguably the pick of his performances to date.
Promoter Lee Eaton said: “We’re thrilled to be returning to Newcastle for another big show to kick off 2020.
“We had a number of brilliant events there in 2019 and we’re confident this will be another superb event. “The North East scene is booming with talented stars at the moment and we’re excited that plenty of them will be showcasing their skills on this bill. It’s certain to be a night to remember.”
