Jordan Ellison fights for money and makes no apology for that. Why should he, this is professional boxing.
But in the coming months there is every chance the Co Durham boxer will fight for glory.
A spring Northern Area title contest has been mooted between Ellison and unbeaten Bedlington boxer Darren Reay and, given the excitement created by the Ellis Corrie-Tom Hill battle this month it comes as great news.
Jordan has just completed his 10th appearance of a winless 2019 when he drew a brutal six-round battle with Adam Hague in Bolton.
Both Ellison and Gus Robinson Developments head coach, Peter Cope, are convinced the Hartlepool-trained 24-year-old “won” but the only decision which counted was that of referee Howard Foster, Doncaster’s A-star official.
“Jordan won the fight against a kid who fought for the English title two bouts ago but didn’t get it, unfortunately,” Cope told punch-lines.
“The first round was halfy-half, the second he lost, the third was a close one but he won the last three and smashed him to bits in the process.
“It was quite gory with a lot of blood but Jordan really went for it and performed really well.
“But when you are boxing an MTK fighter on an MTK show the these things happen.
“Jordan has boxed on the road all year and had a couple of results but has deserved much more.”
It was his second draw of 2019 – and second overall – to go with 11 wins and 27 defeats.
Ellison could be described as a journeyman but the reality is he is a journeyman like no other – he goes away and gets stuck in.
And Cope says he is excited at the prospect of a title match for the ex-Horden Sportsman ABC star.
“Jordan is a very good boxer,” added the coach. “He gives opponents a go when he has 10 days notice but with a full six-week camp he’ll be even better.
“He’s boxed for the Northern Area title before when he gave Lewis Ritson a helluva fight, so he knows what it’s all about.
“Jordan is a proper good professional and good lad and no-one would deserve a crack at a title more than him.”
