Barrow to Brentwood is some distance, but it’s the journey Liam Conroy is about to make for his ring return.
It is a rapid return too – just seven weeks after defeat to the brilliant Joshua Buatsi in their battle for the vacant British light-heavyweight title.
While Conroy’s bid for glory ended in round three after two visits to the canvas, he emerged from the Copperbox with his reputation strengthened.
Some fellas might have sulked after a defeat or not returned to the gym until their purse money was spent, but the 26-year-old is back already.
The MTK boxer has Elvis as his opponent at the Brentwood Centre. No, not that one, this is Elvis Dube, a seasoned campaigner from Derby.
His record is not a frightening one, though he carries a bit of a dig, so can’t be taken lightly, but surely Conroy is entitled to a less than strenuous return having just taken on the incredible Buatsi.
His big night in London’s Olympic Park did not go the way of the pride of Barrow-in-Furness, but Conroy has proved he can fight.
Before the Copperbox loss, Conroy had won four title bouts on a row, a Northern Area championship success and three English belt victories, all coming via stoppage.
Liam Walsh will launch his MTK career on the same event.
The Norfolk super-featherweight is back in action following his world title shot to American world champion Gervonta Davis.
Just like last weekend’s MTK promotion in Newcastle, the action at Brentwood will be shown live and exclusive on iFL TV
