Friday night’s boxing event at Dunston is off.
Black Flash Promotions, who were staging the event, in association with Mark Clauzel took the decision on Tuesday night.
Clauzel told punch-lines that the organisers could not press ahead with the show after losing a couple of the six bouts.
MTK trio Chad Ellis, Jay Hughesamd Darren Reay were all scheduled to box along with debutant Gary Dodds, Savannah Marshall and Basi Razaq.
“It’s been a bit of a nightmare really,” he explained.
“There were too many uncertainties with it, including some boxers not getting approval from the board.
“It wasn’t ideal to pull the show as we had sponsors, but we simply couldn’t go ahead with only two to three fights.
“I couldn’t do that to all those who had bought a ticket, it’s not fair.”
But Clauzel, making a return to the promotion side of the sport, says the future is bright.
Black Flash Promotions, headed by former European champion, Pat Barrett, have agreed a deal with leading promoter Frank Warren to use his boxers on their shows.
That means the likes of Luke Cope, Joe Maphosa, Jeff Saunders and Troy Williamson can all get to box in front of a North-East audience.
“We have another date booked,” added Mark. “We will go then and with the new partnership with Frank Warren, i’m sure it will be a great success.”
