Fight fans are in for a treat this month.
Next Saturday at Houghton marks the 2019 entry of the daddy of North-East boxing Phil Jeffries, following the recent Darlington show staged by his partner on the promoting scene, Steve Wraith.
There’s a 10-fight card at Rainton Meadows Arena and there is another packed programme at the end of March.
Black Flash Promotions return to Tyneside for their first North-East event of the year at Dunston on Friday, March 29.
The night stars a few of the region’s hottest unbeaten prospects, Darren Surtees (pictured), Troy Williamson and Jeff Saunders, who is making an eagerly-awaited return to the sport.
There is a strong MTK flavour with undefeated trio Chad Ellis, Jay Hughes and Darren Reay boxing for the first time in 2019.
And the evening signals a return to the promotional scene for a certain Mark Clauzel.
The undefeated former pro made a stunning debut back in late 2013 when Ringstar staged Martin Ward’s Commonwealth bantamweight title win over Gabriel Laryea in a cracking show which also featured Andrew Buchanan, Peter Cope, Anth Hardy, Danny Hughes, Anthony Nelson, and Lewis Scott.
Clauzel’s welterweight, Basi Razak, will be in action for the first time since September 2017, as Mark links up with Pat Barrett, whose Black Flash Promotions hosted a card last November at the Lancastrian Suite.
“It gets my foot back in the water,” Clauzel told punch-lines.
“It’s nice to be promoting again and we’re looking forward to a great night on the 29th.
“There is a good mix of MTK lads, Frank Warren’s North-East boxers, and it’s nice to have Basi back and there’s a debut for Gary Dodds. “We want decent, competitive matches so we’re hoping for a good show.”
