He’s never been in a bad fight and certainly not a quiet one, so excitement is mounting for the first outing of 2019 for Terence Wilkinson.
The undefeated Newcastle fighter is part of the packed show Phil Jeffries will be staging at Houghton-le-Spring on Saturday, March 16.
A clean-living, fitness-freak and nice fella outside the ropes, the 23-year-old is a totally different beast when Stewart Lithgo or James Holborn sounds the bell as Naheem Chaudhry, Mohamed Mahmoud, Chris Adaway and Fonz Alexander have discovered thus far.
A graduate of the Forest Hall fighting academy he is a man to excite though coach, Davy Ritson, admits he would like to see more jabbing and a slight reduction in violence.
“I can’t wait for next Saturday,” said Davy who has been busy on the amateur scene as well of late with Forest Hall ABC.
“Terry’s looking great – he has been training twice a day and putting in the miles on the road.
“He’s done some good sparring with Glenn McCrory’s young protege, Louis Isaacs, he’s happy and he’s relaxed.
“Terry’s a machine, he’s never out of the gym and it’s a pleasure to train him.
“I’m trying to get him to win fights on the jab.
“A little bit like Lewis, he’s been too keen to impress, it was hard to hold Lewis back.
“He’s got the boxing ability, but with Terry, and it’s the same with Lewis, if you hit him the instinct is to whack him back instead of waiting for an opportunity!”
Wilkinson was in one of the fights of the night at the Metro Radio Arena last October when he took part in a terrific four-rounder with Adaway (pictured above).
The Walker light-welterweight then completely dominated his fourth bout when he did use his sharp jab against Alexander, allied to some clever switching of attacks to head to body.
Davy was assisted in the corner at the Lancastrian Suite by Neil Fannan who, of course, trains young Ritson.
“Fanno likes Terry, he’s his type of fighter,” said Davy.
Wilkinson is nearly everyone’s type of fighter, so prepare for action next Saturday,
Terry is just 10 per cent of the event which is dominated by the Jaffa stable of fighters, like the Hill brothers, Joe and Tom, Joe Laws and Dean Laing. Frank Warren prospect, Joe Maphosa, steps up with a six-rounder against Louis Norman, while Imran Naeem stablemates, Luke Cope and Terry Tyers also fight. There is a debut for Teesside cruiserweight, Michael Webster, while Tyneside heavyweight, Jone Volau, is also in action when he faces Sheffield’s David Howe.
