Revenge or repeat?
That is the question ahead of have-gloves-will-travel Jordan Ellison’s return to Liverpool.
The Seaham-born, Hartlepool-trained lightweight clinched a famous victory on his last visit to Merseyside at the end of last year when he took the scalp of recent Commonwealth champion, Sean ‘Masher’ Dodd.
Ellison boxes again over eight rounds at the famous Olympia venue, Liverpool’s answer to the York Hall or the Borough Hall.
This time he has a very different assignment.
In the home corner at the VIP Promotions event is Lancashire lad Colin Day, who is still smarting from four-round defeat to Ellison in Wigan in December 2017.
That evening at Robin Park, referee Steve Gray scored a tight affair 39-38 in favour of the Gus Robinson Developments away-day specialist, who ended Day’s 100 per cent start to his career.
Day was incensed then and his mood has barely subsided since.
Gus Robinson Developments head coach, Peter Cope, told punch-lines: “This, as they say, is personal.
“Ever since the fight, Day has been on Jordan’s case about a return – this kid wants to avenge that defeat.
“I couldn’t be there that night and Mick Marsden did our corner.
“Mick reckoned it could have been a draw, but the referee went with Jordan, and it was one of the many wins he’s taken on the road against home kids.
“It’s going to be a tough fight, but Jordan’s up for this and he’ll do what Jordan always does, he’ll give it a proper go.”
Day, from Skelmersdale, has a 6-1 (1) record with Ellison at 11-21 (1) and Cope wonders if his boxer’s regular work pattern might prove vital as he looks
“I think Colin has boxed twice since their fight and Jordan’s had a dozen bouts,” added the trainer. “Jordan wants to work and has a great attitude of ‘if I win, great, if I lose I’ll be boxing again soon’.”
On the same bill, the nephew of 1980s Gus Robinson Developments heavyweight Noel Quarless, Liverpool cruiserweight Nathan Quarless, chases his fourth win from four pro bouts, against Kent Kauppinen.
It’s a busy night on Merseyside for North-East boxing.
Newton Aycliffe’s Pete Shepperson-trained Lee Stevens makes his debut across town at the Greenback Academy against Scouser Brad Strand.

His DBMA team-mate, Adam Hutchinson, had been due to appear on the Black Flash Promotions event only to be ruled out through illness.
