We’ve not seen any T-shirts yet but Steve Wraith launches his farewell tour this Saturday at the scene of one of his best shows.
The boxing and entertainment promoter stages D-day in Darlo at the Dolphin Centre, starring Ste Cooper, Ellis Corrie, John Green and Daryll Hall.
Wraith, who hosted a cracker at the Darlington venue last May, has announced that 2019 will be his swansong as a boxing promoter, though he will continue to manage fighters.
The Geordie is excited to see his quartet taping up their gloves and all four have their own separate ‘stories’.
Wraith, who promotes alongside his red & white friend Phil Jeffries, told punch-lines: “Ellis is fighting again after a frustrating year in 2018.
“Coming from a very different fighting discipline, he made a good start in boxing, but he saw Basi Razak walk out just minutes before they were going to fight at the Dolphin Centre and he’s been beset by niggling injuries.
“I know he’s looking to move forward in 2019.
“Daryll is a great story.
“I’m involved in football with Dunston and I got to know Daryll through that.
“He turned pro when he was playing football in Australia and he fancies giving it a crack here. He’ll be worth watching.
“Ste is a great lad who’s looking forward to fighting again in his backyard.
“I promoted his first home appearance and while he’s dipped out for a couple of years, he’s excited to be back and he’ll have some good support behind him – he sold his tickets within a couple of weeks.
“John is doing a six-rounder and he’ll have a lot of support there too.
“He’s had a horrendous time after losing his dad and I’m sure this will be a tribute to him.
“John is focused on having a big 2019. There are a couple of derbies kicking about, he has a good pedigree and he’s a real star down that part of the North-East. I hope we can have a great year with him.”
