Dynamite Darren Surtees is set for another night on the world stage.
‘Dazzla’, fresh from a second round knock-out win in Saudi Arabia last month, will box on the World Boxing Super Series event in Glasgow on Saturday, November 3.
The unbeaten Thornley light-welterweight has been matched with experienced operator, Troy James, on the bill headlined by Josh Taylor’s WBSS quarter-final with American Ryan Martin.
It is back-to-back WBSS appearances for Surtees who hammered Kane Baker to a second round defeat on the undercard of Callum Smith’s world super-middleweight triumph over George Groves in Jeddah for his sixth inside-the-distance success.
Coach Dave Binns was thrilled with the 24-year-old’s display on the show which was screened by ITV Box Office.
“I was so pleased,” said Binns. “It was a huge occasion with a lot of razzamatazz but he took it all in his stride.
“The finish was great but taking out the knock-out, the performance was outstanding.
“That was no mug he was boxing, Kane had come to win.
“Troy James is a step up for Darren.
“He’s beaten Ronnie Clark, who’s currently setting the place alight, boxed Terry Flanagan and been in with Luke Campbell this year.
“This is another good opportunity for Darren and he’s looking great.”
Surtees has been busy in the East Durham College gym, where he helped team-mate Glenn Foot in his preparations for the British and Commonwealth light-welterweight championship clash with Robbie Davies Jnr.
James, from Coventry, has a record of 20 wins and a draw in 27 appearances with Surtees boasting nine straight victories.
It promises to be a huge night of boxing at the SSE Hydro.
As well as Taylor v Martin, there is the not-so-small matter of Ryan Burnett’s WBA bantamweight title defence against Nonito Donaire.
