Too good an opportunity to miss out on.
That’s the verdict from Glenn Foot as he prepares for the biggest night of his career in Newcastle on Saturday night.
Victory for the all-action Sunderland fighter against Robbie Davies Jnr will bring him two light-welterweight titles.
Foot defends his Commonwealth title for the first time against the big-punching Scouser, while the British belt vacated by Jack Catterall is also on the line.
What a fight and what a chance of a glory night for the 30-year-old.
“You have to take the opportunities when they come along and this is a great opportunity,” said Foot, who was on the undercard in a non-title affair the last time Matchroom were in the Metro Radio Arena in June.
“It’s a great show to fight on, live on Sky Sports as well.
“I want the big fights, I want all the titles I can get my hands on and there isn’t a better stage to get them.
“I’ve got to thank Eddie for bringing the show back to Newcastle and Lewis Ritson for being the boy up here at the minute.
“The atmosphere was unbelievable last time, I’ve never experienced anything like it.
“This is a big opportunity for Glenn Foot and I’m going to take full advantage of it.”
Foot has found his best touch, some might claim, quite late in his career.
A Prizefighter winner in bout 10, it took him until contest 25 to get a major belt around his waist, stopping Jason Easton in the penultimate round of their Commonwealth showdown in Glasgow in March.
Punch-lines suggested life has begun at 30 for the Marley Pots hard case but the man in question is not so sure.
“You could say that,” he smiled. “But I’ve had a couple of long spells out of the ring, so I don’t really feel 30.”
Some observers feel Foot is biting of more than he can chew this Saturday.
The Phil Jeffries and Dave Binns fighter is a true warrior and has never been stopped but some observers feel Foot is biting of more than he can chew this Saturday.
Davies carries some wallop, stopping 12 opponents, but Foot is unconcerned.
“Robbie Davies will get the biggest shock of his life.”
