Joe Laws will be rubbing shoulders with boxing’s elite in only his third professional appearance.
Laws will fight at the Metro Radio Arena on Saturday, October 13 when Matchroom stages the next night of championship boxing in Newcastle, starring Lewis Ritson, Glenn Foot and Joshua Buatsi.
‘The Benwell Bomber’ is appropriately named, he is an explosive boxer, with dynamite in this gloves, with a loud army of fans.
Hundreds were at the Stadium of Light for his pro debut at the start of July and the ‘Bomb Squad’ were again just a few weeks later at Houghton for his second date.
Both fights have resulted in quick fire victories for the Newcastle entertainer, Sylwester Walczak stopped in the fourth at the Summer Rumble and Irish tough guy James Gorman retiring on his stool at the end of a torrid first round at Rainton Meadows Arena. The former Birtley ABC crowd-pleaser, coached by Graeme Rutherford, felled the Belfast veteran with a crunching left hook to the body.
Manager Phil Jeffries said: “I told people when I signed him that he was an exciting kid.
“He’s proved that so far, you could never say that Lawsy is not exciting!
“His fans love him and more and more people are becoming Joe Laws supporters.
“It doesn’t surprise me one bit that Eddie Hearn has given him a slot at the Metro Radio Arena. Joe is an exciting young boxer with a great following.
“This is an incredible opportunity so early in his career and I think he’ll excel on the big stage.”
It is a busy night for the Jaffa stable with Lewis Ritson topping the bill in what is expected to be a challenge for the European lightweight title.
His Sunderland star, Glenn Foot, will fight Liverpool’s Robbie Davies Jnr for the British and Commonwealth light-welterweight titles, the Marley Pots hard case having won the Commonwealth strap back in March.
Rising light-heavyweight talent Joshua Buatsi collected his first belt last time out at the O2, where he stopped Andrejs Pokumeiko in the first round of their WBA International match, and he will look to carry on that form on Tyneside.
Doncaster heavy Dave Allen will also be in action after his career-best win over Nick Webb on the Whyte-Parker undercard in their British title eliminator.
