A warrior and a winner.
Those are the words of Phil Jeffries about Wearside fight favourite Glenn Foot, who is just a couple of months away from the biggest night of his career.
‘The Hammer’ defends his Commonwealth light-welterweight title for the first time when he faces the dangerous Robbie Davies Jnr at the Metro Radio Arena on October 13, live on Sky Sports.
Also on the line will be the vacant British championship in what could be THE showdown of the Matchroom bill.
Davies is cock-a-hoop having avenged his only career defeat by stopping Michal Syrowatka in the 12th round of their World Boxing Association Continental light-welterweight title re-match at the end of March.
The Scouser’s success came just weeks after Foot’s greatest night when he clinched an 11th round stoppage win over Scotland’s Jason Easton in Glasgow.
“Glenn is in the shape and form of his life,” said manager Jeffries.
“He’s always been a warrior, everyone knows how Footy fights, but now he has shown he’s a winner.
“I’m not the only person who says he beat Josh Leather at the Metro Radio Arena last November but never got the decision.
“When he fought Jason Easton in Glasgow he made sure there was no way he would be leaving Glasgow empty handed.
“He dominated him and then stopped him, Footy proved that he is a winner.
“He’s determined to get all the titles he can get his hands on and he wants these two so much on October 13.
“It will be a great fight against Robbie Davies who is good but this Glenn Foot is something different. I have a lot of time and respect for Robbie’s manager, Neil Marsh, and I’m not taking any liberties with Davies but I just don’t see him beating Footy.”
Foot warmed up for this clash by beating Sam Omidi on points in Newcastle in June, a night stablemate Lewis Ritson sealed the Lonsdale Belt at lightweight and Sunderland neighbour Josh Kelly won the Commonwealth welterweight belt.
It was the David Binns-trained fighter’s 23rd victory of his career.
Ritson will top the bill on October 13, when unbeaten former Olympian Joshua Buatsi and Doncaster heavyweight Dave Allen will also be in action.
