Lewis Ritson world title march starts at Metro Radio Arena in October

Lewis Ritson is on the “world title march.”

So says Eddie Hearn after Matchroom Boxing officially announced that October 13 was the night that the Newcastle hero would be returning to his home Toon.

That Saturday has been bandied about for a while but now the date is out there.

Ritson is set to challenge for the European lightweight title with his Phil Jeffries stablemate Glenn Foot fighting Liverpool’s Robbie Davies Jnr for the British and Commonwealth light-welterweight championships.

“I’ll be honest I’m counting down the days til we are back in Newcastle,” said excited promoter Hearn, who headlined the Metro Radio Arena in June with Ritson and Josh Kelly.

“Last time out was something very special and October 13 will be even bigger.

“Lewis Ritson is a star with a city behind him and now we are on the world title march.

“His fight and the full undercard will be announced at a press conference soon.”

Unbeaten World Boxing Association International light-heavyweight champ Joshua Buatsi will be on the bill as will Doncaster heavy Dave Allen, who beat Nick Webb on the Dillian Whyte-Joseph Parker undercard at the O2 last month in their British Heavyweight title eliminator.

“Fans can expect a packed night with Joshua Buatsi, Dave Allen and a brilliant clash between Glen Foot and Robbie Davies Jnr,” added Hearn.

Ritson’s last outing at the Metro Radio Arena saw him drop Paul Hyland Jr three times in the first round to take home the British lightweight belt to Forest Hall for keeps.

‘The Sandman’ first must negotiate an eight-round international match on the Amir Khan-Samuel Vargas undercard on September 8 in Birmingham.
