There’s only one Lewis Ritson. Of that, there is no doubt.
But watch out for his fight-alike Forest Hall stablemate, who is making his way in the professional game.
Terence Wilkinson will make just his second paid appearance this Friday on the bumper bill at Houghton, where Tommy Ward aims to become the International Boxing Federation’s European champion.
The Newcastle light-welterweight faces Plymouth’s Mohamed Mahmoud over four rounds at the Rainton Meadows Arena, as part of a nine-fight show promoted by Dennis Hobson, in association with Dave Garside and Phil Jeffries.
Wilkinson is another astute ‘black and white’ signing by Jaffa, a man who bleeds red and white, so it was fitting his debut came at the Stadium of Light.
Terence impressed in a dominant four-round display against Naheem Chaudry (pictured above) and Ritson is excited, saying that Wilkinson is cut from a similar cloth.
“Terry’s probably a bit like me, too tough for his own good,” laughed Ritson.
“It was a good performance from him at the Summer Rumble and I’m expecting another from him on Friday.
“Terry’s as strong as a bull, but he’s very good as well.”
Ritson, who won the Lonsdale Belt outright last month with a spectacular one-round slaying of Paul Hyland, believes his team-mate can go far and forecasts that fans will see what he can really do when his opponent fights instead of runs.
“He’s a good fighter,” Ritson told punch-lines. “You’ll see the best of Terry when he’s in with better opposition.
“To be fair, that kid at the Stadium of Light was no mug, he was a slick mover, quite good, but you will see how good Terry is when he’s against someone who will come for him and he can let his shots go.”
North-East boxers Chad Ellis, Jordan Ellison, Anth Hardy, Tom Hill, Kyle Redfearn and Mohammed Waqas are also in action.
