Hannah Robinson is the pride of the North-East …. again.
Just six weeks after striking gold in England’s Senior Elite Championship finals in London she was at it again.
The Birtley ABC is now champion of Great Britain after winning the lightweight final at the Three Nations finals in Rotherham.
And Robinson clinched the U60 kilo title after scoring an action replay of her England triumph at the York Hall in April by defeating compatriot , Shanice James, at the Magna Centre.
Hannah boxed superbly from the first bell, moving well and scoring with accurate shots.
To Shanice’s credit, the UK Armed Forces boxer produced a spirited effort in the final round but it was not enough to prevent the 23-year-old, from Co Durham, from taking the prize. Hannah is pictured above with England coach, Shiney Singh.
Graeme Rutherford-coached Robinson was joined in Rotherham by Birtley ABC team-mate, Ben Rees.
The light-heavyweight went into his Three-Nations semi-final on Saturday against Sean Lazzarini in great heart following his England Elite gold and being named as English number one at U81 kilos.
Alas this England v Scotland battle did not live up to its expectation and it proved a scrappy, foul-strewn affair.
Ben was warmed twice and Sean once as the Scot was awarded the points decision, leaving Rees with a bronze medal.
The Tyne, Tees & Wear division was represented in the big boys as well, in the shape of the man known as ‘Hightower’, Steven Robinson, who also came home with bronze after defeat in an England v Scotland semi.
The Swalwell ABC super-heavyweight was matched with Mitchell Barnton, with the Scot taking a unanimous decision.
Robinson was given a standing eight count in the second round but deserves praise for toughing it out right the way through to the final bell.
