Ellison on the road again with a battle of the Jordans in Glasgow

He’s on the road again and Jordan Ellison can’t wait.

The Hartlepool boxer is off to Glasgow on Friday night when he’ll face popular Scottish super-featherweight Jordan McCrory.

Ellison has spent the last 15 months as an away fighter, making 19 appearances for the Gus Robinson Developments team, winning seven times, all against either unbeaten fighters or hometown ticket-sellers and sometimes both.

This Friday’s home boxer is not undefeated but McCrory brings an impressive 19-bout record to the ring in Glasgow, with 15 wins and a draw and just three losses. He has been stopped only once, at the hands of Ronnie ‘The Shark’ Clark in a challenge for the Scottish title.

Gus Robinson Developments head coach Peter Cope said: “Jordan doesn’t care who’s in the other corner to be honest.

“Jordan loves a challenge and it’s the same this Friday.

“He’s been away this year and won the challenge belt in Maidstone against an unbeaten prospect.

“Jordan’s always in hard fights but he’s got a chance.

“One thing’s for sure, he’ll be going away to win, just like he does every time.”

Ellison tuned up for this trip to Scotland by sparring six rounds with British lightweight champion Lewis Ritson while he has previously sparred with another Lonsdale Belt holder, Tommy Ward (pictured above).

It’s a busy week for the Gus Robinson Developments camp with Greg O’Neil in action 24 hours later in Darlington.

O’Neil takes on his old team-mate, Richard O’Neill, over six rounds at the Dolphin Centre at the Steve Wraith-promoted event.

“It’s brilliant to have both lads out in what look like great fights,” said Cope.

“Greg and Richard have sparred loads of times and this should be a brilliant fight.”
