Glenn Foot can’t stay out of the winner’s enclosure.
Foot tasted victory at Pelaw Grange Greyhound Stadium at the weekend when one of his dogs won on her debut.
You will see the 30-year-old at many a North-East track where he indulges in his great sporting love.
However, fans of the Sunderland fighter will be keen too see him back in the ring next month in Newcastle following his Commonwealth title triumph last time out in Glasgow.
Foot is on the major bill at the Metro Radio Arena where he is likely to have a six-rounder.
‘The Hammer’ had hoped to be facing Josh Leather for the British light-welterweight title after the boxing authorities ordered the Wear-Tees match for the championship vacated by Jack Catterall.
Alas, the sport never runs that smoothly does it and the British Boxing Board of Control have extended the purse bid process by a further month.
Eddie Hearn had hoped to put Foot-Leather 2 on at his show starring Josh Kelly and Lewis Ritson, but Leather is instead fighting Ohara Davies at the O2 on June 23.
The Foot-Leather re-match could yet happen, but if Josh wins in London against his 10-stone rival will he want to take on Glenn? And if he loses his unbeaten record to the Londoner will the BBBC still sanction the fight?
Foot is simply focused on success, whoever the opponent.
“I want as many titles as we can get,” said the Marley Pots crowd favourite.
“The British is what I want. I have always wanted that for my Granda.
“I will give 110 per cent to win the British for him.”
The Leather title talk is all ifs and buts for now and Foot has the chance to tune up in Newcastle next month.
And the Phil Jeffries and David Binns fighter is currently in the form of his life following that stoppage victory over Jason Easton at the SSE Hydro in March.
“I was devastated at the time [of the Leather defeat last November},” he said.
“When I got robbed I said I was packing in. The Commonwealth shot came and that spurred me on again.
“The idea of fighting Josh Leather again on a big show is really driving me on.”
