Amir Khan might have got the job done faster, but the finish of Natasha Jonas was just as ruthless.
The Liverpool girl produced a peach of a right hand to dismantle her tough foe, Taoussy L’Hadji, at the Echo Arena in one of the chief support bouts to Khan’s first-round destruction of Phil Lo Greco.
L’Hadji crumbled to the canvas seconds later with referee, Michael Alexander, calling it off at the one minute, 47 second mark of round seven to give the 33-year-old the WBA international super-featherweight title.
It was the former Olympian’s first pro belt and the springboard for a world title challenge this year.
Jonas had blown away four of her previous opponents but this was her most testing night.
But to get the better of a difficult opponent in the manner in which it was achieved will give the boxer, trainer Joe Gallagher, and promoter Eddie Hearn belief that a world title success is within the grasp of ‘Miss GB’.
