Savannah Marshall is back in training and awaiting a first fight in 2018.
The Hartlepool boxer has not fought since registering a points win over Sydney LeBlanc in Las Vegas last August.
Having been signed by Mayweather Promotions, the 26-year-old enjoyed a dream debut on the undercard of Floyd Mayweather’s mega-event win over Conor McGregor.
Marshall was superb and fully warranted her unanimous 40-36 decision in a four-rounder at the T Mobile Arena.
But she has been inactive since, much to the disappointment of fans who had been excited to see the 2012 world champion turn pro after a glittering amateur career.
However, the former Headland ABC middleweight is working hard under coach Peter Fury in his Bolton gym.
Peter, who guided nephew Tyson to world heavyweight glory against Wladimir Klitschko in 2015 and son Hughie to a WBO title shot last year, prepared Marshall in the build-up to her debut in the paid ranks.
And she is thrilled to be working with him again.
“I’m training hard,” Savannah told punch-lines. “I’m glad to be back working with Peter.
“I like and trust him. He’s a good coach and it’s nice to train alongside Hughie and Peter McDonagh. Things are going well and I’m just awaiting news about a fight.”
Marshall, a Commonwealth Games gold medallist in Glasgow four years ago, to go with a gold, silver and bronze medals from World Championships, watched and enjoyed the action from Australia, but says she is not missing the amateurs.
“The squads have been brilliant at the Commonwealths,” she said. “It was great to see.
“I loved winning gold in the last Commonwealths but I made the right decision to go pro. I needed a new challenge.”
