Will Lewis Ritson offer both hands to Scotty Cardle in British title fight?

Lewis Ritson might be inclined to offer both fists to Scotty Cardle at the O2 after the challenger snubbed his handshake at the weigh-in.

Once the rivals finished on the scales and posed for the traditional face-off pictures, the British champion offered his hand to the former title holder.

The 28-year-old declined, leaving a bemused Ritson with a wry smile on his face.

Ritson weighed in bang on the 9st 9lb limit with Cardle just under two pounds inside the championship mark.

Will something so trivial fire up the Geordie on Saturday night?

Probably not. The 24-year-old is one of the calmest, most pleasant laid-back characters you could meet, until he gets inside the ring.

Then he turns into a destroyer, as he proved when making the maiden defence of his title last month in Manchester.

The Forest Hall fighter stopped challenger Joe Murray inside two minutes at Victoria Warehouse, his trademark body shot setting up victory.

Ritson, however, explains he is expecting Cardle, a boxer he knows well, to be “cute” in his approach.

“It will be totally different fight to Murray,” said Ritson.

“Joe came to fight but Scotty will try to frustrate me I think, I’m not saying he’ll run away, he’ll try to box smart, a bit cute.

“He won’t engage, he’ll probably look to frustrate me, try to tire me out.

“But I feel as fit as a fiddle and hopefully that won’t happen.”

Being fit as a fiddle is essential for the undefeated champion given his bout with Murray was a mere three weeks ago.

“I think I got four days off (after the win over Murray,” Ritson told punch-lines.

“I was picking up my dad one day, we were just talking and he just said ‘by the way, Matchroom have been on and you are fighting Cardle in three weeks time!’

“I just said ‘no bother’.

“It has been a hard 2018, but a good one as well. I’ve been kept busy!”

Tonight’s fight is expected to start around 8pm and will be screened live on Sky Sports.
