Jason Easton rates Glenn Foot as a “very tough” hurdle but is confident he’s an obstacle he will clear.
It’s Scotland v England in Glasgow on Saturday night when two all-action light-welterweights collide for the vacant Commonwealth title.
Easton has reeled off 11 straight victories, highlighted by him lifting the International Boxing Organisation’s inter-continental belt, while Sunderland favourite Foot has won 21 of his 24 outings, his most recent appearance being a defeat for the IBF’s European title.
“Glenn’s very tough, he’s boxed at the highest British level, he’s fought Sam Eggington and did well against Josh Leather,” Easton told punch-lines.
“It’s going to be a hard fight but I’m very confident of winning.”
Has this Channel 5-screened clash therefore come at the right time for the 26-year-old from Edinburgh?
“100%,” he declared. “I’ve been asking for these type of contests for around three fights.
“I want to fight these guys, I want to test myself, I believe I can fight at this level, I definitely feel ready.
“I’ll prove that on Saturday.”
Boxing’s Calcutta Cup re-match at the SSE Hydro, staged by Cyclone Promotions, looks destined to be explosive, neither Easton nor Foot know the meaning of the expression ‘backward steps’.
Easton is expecting a “war” though he says he plans to box rather than fight, easier said than dome against the 30-year-old hard case.
“Glenn’s an entertaining fighter as well, it’s going to be a good scrap,” said Jason, who has already shown what he can do on Channel 5.
“I’m going to show more of my boxing ability this time.
“My last three or four fights have all been on Channel 5 and I couldn’t wish for better exposure, so thank you to Cyclone and Channel 5.
“It’s surreal but I’m loving it.”
