If the same Glenn Foot who fought Josh Leather turns up, he’ll be the new Commonwealth champion.
That was the message from manager Phil Jeffries as his all-action fighter builds up for a challenge for the vacant title in Glasgow on March 3.
Foot will tackle undefeated Scot Jason Easton at the SSE Hydro Arena, live on Channel 5.
The Sunderland crowd favourite is “fired up” according to Jeffries following his controversial IBF European title defeat to Leather last November.
“Glenn is up for this, no doubt about it,” roared Jaffa. “I’ve been offered a few fights for Footy, but he wants titles.
“This is a great chance for him and it’s on normal telly so the nation will see what a great fighter Sunderland has.”
Jeffries claims Foot was “robbed” in his North-East derby with Leather, the Guisborough boxer retaining his title and 100 per cent record, by a unanimous points decision at the Metro Radio Arena.
The 29-year-old now has another up and coming undefeated boxer in front of him in Scotland on the Cyclone Promotions event.
Easton, from Edinburgh, has won all 11 of his bouts and has an IBO inter-continental belt to his name.
“f the same Glenn Foot who fought Josh Leather turns up, he’ll be the new Commonwealth champion,” declared Jaffa. “Footy turned the clock back that night at the Metro Arena.
“He’s fired up and deserves a big title.
“Yes, he’s away against a decent lad but that doesn’t worry him.
“When I rang him up, he accepted straight away, he’s a proper fighting man as Jason might find out.”
Foot is hard at work in the East Durham College gym, under the guidance of coach Dave Binns, and has sparred this week with Jaffa’s British champ, Lewis Ritson.
