‘Gutted’ MTK boxers can look forward to huge show at Newcastle Eagles Arena

Disappointed MTK boxers can begin to count down to their next assignment.

So says their coach, Gary Barr, who this week has had the task of lifting unbeaten Chad Ellis (pictured), Jay Hughes and Darren Reay, who should have been starring on tonight’s scheduled event in Dunston

Next up for them will be MTK’s blockbuster at Newcastle Eagles Community Arena on Friday, May 3, when they will be joined by team-mate, Gary Dodds, who was due to be making his debut at the Lancastrian Suite,.

The MTK fighters, who have 17 wins between them, were “gutted” to see the Black Flash Promotions event, in conjunction with Mark Clauzel, bite the dust.

“It is what it is, sadly,” Barr told punch-lines. “At least they have May 3rd as a goal to work towards.

“They have been training since January and all that work is in the bank.

“It is gutting for the boxers about tonight’s show, they had got their weights down, built themselves up for their first bouts of the year and had got themselves into fight mode.

“But sadly, this happens in boxing and now they must move on and look forward to May 3rd and what should be a great night at the Newcastle Eagles Arena.”

It certainly should be a great night at the venue, which could well require its full 3,000 capacity.

Unbeaten Thornley KO specialist Darren Surtees can make a step towards fighting for the British light-welterweight title by winning his championship eliminator against Wales’s Kieran Gething.

Surtees has won all 11 of his pro appearances, including eight inside the distance.

Fellow  Phil Jeffries-managed boxer, ‘Benwell Bomber’ Joe Laws,  will make his fifth pro appearance on the show after an exciting start to his career.

Jaffa’s promotion partner, Steve Wraith, also has two of his stable of stars in action and both will be aiming to move closer to title contention.

Lawrence Osueke is looking a hot prospect at light-heavyweight and he boxes for the eighth time following seven straight wins.

Teessider, John Green, is two wins into a comeback, and with him and coach,  Pete Shepperson, having their eyes on a push towards the English title picture this year, we could well see the Middlesbrough boxer up against quality opposition.
