Joe and Tom Hill looking ‘mint’ ahead of March 16 show in Houghton

Get ready for one Hill of a night.

Red-hot Redcar brothers Joe and Tom Hill will box on the same show for the third occasion in their careers on Saturday, March 16.

No opponents have been named yet for the Houghton-le-Spring event for the pair, who train under the in-form coach, Dave Binns, at the East Durham College gym in Peterlee.

Both are looking “mint” according to Binns who has guided them to a 100 per cent record of eight wins, five for Tom and three for Joe.

Tom, known as ‘One Bomb’, is looking ready for a step up to six rounds, while Joe will continue his development with a four-rounder at the Rainton Meadows Arena.

The Hills ‘enjoyed’ a good spar in mid-week with British lightweight champion Lewis Ritson – if you come through a session with ‘The Sandman’ you must be doing all right!

“They are looking absolutely outstanding,” Binns told punch-lines. “They sparred with Lewis on Thursday and both looked good.

“With Tom, we’ve requested a six-rounder and we’re waiting to hear back.

“He;’s a top-class kid and we’re hoping to step him up a bit.

“Joe has not been as constant with his training as Tom, due to family commitments, but he has pulled his finger out and he’s working hard.

“I’m looking to see him develop his jab, but he’s coming on a bomb.”

Joe, 26, and Tom, 23, are just two parts of a bumper production by Phil Jeffries and Steve Wraith. Joe is pictured left and Tom right, with Ritson in a Hill sandwich at the East Durham gym.

The cast list is a long one, featuring, in alphabetical order, Luke Cope, Joe Laws, Reece McAllister, Joe Maphosa, Anth Ornsby, Mark Taylor, Terry Tyers and Terence Wilkinson.
