WBA champ Savannah Marshall to fight Hungarian opposition in Manchester

Savannah Marshall will have Hungarian opposition on Friday night in Manchester, where she looks to build on her WBA Inter-continental super-middleweight championship triumph.

The exciting Hartlepool boxer has been matched with Klaudia Vigh in a non-title international match at Victoria Warehouse.

Vigh, in her fifth year as a professional, has lost on all four visits to the UK, including a second-round stoppage in Manchester to Marshall’s former Great Britain team-mate, Stacey Copeland exactly 12 months ago.

Marshall will be the hot favourite to inflict a fifth straight loss on Vigh on British soil.

The 27-year-old is in great form, and full of confidence, having won her first pro belt in just her fourth paid contest when she outpointed Yanina Orozco in Sofia last month.

Marshall had her previously-unbeaten Argentinian opponent on the canvas in the second round and in trouble in the last before having to settle for a wide points success.

The former Commonwealth and World amateur champion, trained in Bolton by Peter Fury, can’t wait for Friday night’s date in a city buzzing ahead of Saturday’s Bellew-Uzyk showdown at the Manchester Arena.

“I’m looking forward to boxing at home in front of my family, friends and fans,” said the ex-Headland ABC middleweight. “It’s great to be out so soon after Sofia.

“I had a great camp for the fight with Yanina and I felt as strong in the last round as I did in the first, so I’m looking to carry on where I left off there.

“I like being busy, so can’t wait to get in there.”

Tomorrow night’s show features Blackpool’s former British light-middleweight champion, Brian Rose, and two Manchester fighters, Adam Hague and Jimmy Kelly.
