Big-hitter Kyle Redfearn takes on German KO king Nick Hannig in Wolfburg

Talk about taking on a big task!

Kyle Redfearn puts his unbeaten record on the line this weekend … in Germany.

The hard-hitting Ferryhill force takes on undefeated German fighter Nick Hannig in Wolfsburg in a battle of two light-heavyweights who are addicted to knock-outs.

Redfearn has won all seven of his professional appearances, five coming via stoppage, while the 32-year-old Berliner’s record is not shabby either, having rattled off four victories, the first three without the need for the tallies of the judges.

And, given KO ratios of over 70 per cent, don’t expect the three judges to be required at the even promoted by World Boxing Super Series promoters, Team Sauerland.

This is going to be a real hit or get hit dust-up and for Redfearn it’s a real chance to make a name for himself.

A pro for only a couple of years, the 28-year-old has made rapid work of every foe put in front of him and looks in terrific shape and form after preparing under the guidance of Gary Barr in the MTK Gateshead gym.

This reporter is unsure about Kyle’s grasp of German but he will do well to take note of the referee’s instruction to “protect yourselves at all times” given the past behaviour of Herr Hannig.

The German, fighting on the undercard of a WBSS show in Berlin knocked out Ondrej Schwarz, but that does not tell the entire story.

His opponent was stretching out his left arm to touch gloves after the opening bell sounded at the Max Schmeling Halle, but Hannig was not standing for any pleasantries as he thundered a left into the head of his opponent, knocking out his opponent to the canvas unceremoniously. So keep your hands up Kyle!

Seriously, it looks an incredible opening for Redfearn who will have matched and marvelled at how Darren Surtees took to the big stage last weekend on another Team Sauerland event, in Saudi Arabia.

It is a significant ask, but he has the confidence and power.

Redfearn said: “I’m in the shape of my life.

“I’ve made so many sacrifices just so I can be the very best version of me come fight night.”
